Aug 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka's environmentally friendly industries and services who contribute to environmental conservation and anti-pollution were recognized for their excellence in green practice, strategy and products at the first ever National Green Awards Ceremony 2011 held Tuesday under the
patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the BMICH in Colombo.
The awards ceremony organized by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the authority recognized the leaders in green practices among over 300 Sri Lanka's entrepreneurs, industrialists, and other stakeholders for their contribution to control pollution and green the environment.
Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority, Charitha Herath has said the award scheme is an alternative system to controlling pollution and greening the environment instead of the existing command and control approaches and education and awareness programmes.
President Rajapaksa presented 27 Green Awards in 14 sectors including textile, hotel, food and beverage, waste MANAGEMENT and healthcare sectors.
Body Line (Pvt.) Ltd, Horana, Sri Lanka Catering Ltd, Katunayake, Heritance Kandalama and Ulugalla Resort, Thirappane won Gold Awards for their green practices.
