Background

Sri Lankan Catering Ltd. was incorporated in 1980 under the name of Airlanka Catering Services Ltd. The Airports Authority invited our organization to set up and run the entire Airport Restaurants at the Bandaranaike International Airport in 1983.


Objective

The objective of the Restaurant is to provide the best quality and hygienically prepared food to customers by maintaining the highest service standards which is second to none and also ensuring that the required profit margins are achieved.

In order to offer hygienically prepared meals and to provide an efficient and effective service, the Airport Restaurant has been equipped with modern equipment in providing food items in a highest hygienic standard.

Since 1983, Sri Lankan Catering Ltd. has been operating the Airport Restaurant which consists of the Palm Strip Restaurant, Palm Strip Lounge and the Public Restaurant.

Airport Restaurant provides services to three Outlets in the Airport, mainly the Public Restaurant, Palm Strip Restaurant and the Palm Strip Lounge.


Palm Strip Restaurant :

This Restaurant is geared for the provision of food and beverages to the passengers. As duty free items are sold in this Restaurant, only passengers are permitted to patronize this Restaurant. No taxes are levied for the purchases made in this area, since the Palm Strip Restaurant is considered a duty free area.

Ala’carte meals, a choice of snacks, a selection of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages including seasonal fruit juices and desserts are available here.

In the event of an airline delay, food and beverages are provided by this Restaurant to the passengers, on the request of the Airlines at a short notice. A multiple choice of currencies are accepted at this Restaurant.


Palm Strip Lounge :

Palm Strip Lounge is located at the Transit Area of the Departure Terminal building. This Lounge is patronized by Fly Smile passengers of Sri Lankan Airlines and cash paying passengers. These passengers are provided with various facilities as agreed with the Airlines and are invoiced on a flat rate. Cash paying passengers could also purchase food and beverages of their choice at this Lounge.

These passengers are provided with the following additional facilities at this Lounge.

  • Internet and e-mail facilities
  • Newspaper and periodicals
  • TV facilities
  • Telephone facilities



Public Restaurant :

This Restaurant is located at the Departure hall and passengers and staff work in the Airport Terminal Building patronize same.

All meal items sold in the Public Restaurant are for Srilankan Rupees. It is a self-service outlet where Ala’ carte meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Desserts, Hoppers, and a variety of Snacks, Beverages, Fresh Juices, etc.) are sold.


Other Services

Due to the many compliments on its style and quality of service and food provided, the Airport Restaurant was requested to provide meals to the following food outlets situated at the Transit area of the Departure Terminal.

  • Plantation Café
  • Hanger Bar


These outlets are owned by Alpha Orient Lanka Ltd., a retail duty free shop situated at the Departure Hall.
